A female doctor from Houston and her 8-year-old son were denied boarding on an American Airlines flights at Kingston Airport (Jamaica) because her clothing was ‘not appropriate.’ This is not the first time that an airline has barred a passenger from boarding a flight due to ‘inappropriate’ clothing.

Tisha Rowe, who is a family medicine physician, was flying from Jamaica to Miami, United States on June 30, 2019. Tisha chose to wear a romper with a tropical print to deal with the heat but she was told to ‘cover up’ by the cabin crew of the flight or they would be barred from flying.

Tisha took to her Twitter account to share images of what she was actually wearing. She captioned the tweet, “Here is what I was wearing when American Airlines asked me to deplane for a talk. At which point I was asked to ‘cover up’. When defending my outfit I was threatened with not getting back on the flight unless I walked down the aisle wrapped in a blanket. #notsofriendlyskies.”

The images show the front and side of Rowe’s attire that she chose to wear on the flight.

In an exclusive interview to The Washington Post, Rowe gave the details of the incident. She was returning to the United States after spending a week in Jamaica, where Rowe’s family is originally from. She said, that as she arrived at the Kingston Airport, she was sweating, she headed to the washroom to cool off.

She said, “I looked at myself. I knew how I looked, front and back.”

As she boarded the plane, a female flight attendant went up to her and asked to step outside to talk. “Do you have a jacket?” To which Rowe responded saying, no. The female flight attendant then told her, “You cannot get on the plane dressed like that.”

Finally, Rowe gave in and asked for a blanket to cover up as she did not want to miss the flight.

As if that was not all, when Rowe got off the plane, she saw another woman who was wearing shorts that were shorter than Rowe’s. “The difference between that woman and me is she was about a size 2, thin, It’s hard to understand if you are not a double minority, a woman and a black, how it’s not pulling a card.”

According to the Washington Post, Shannon Gilson, American Airlines’s spokesperson reached out to Rowe to apologise, “We apologize to Dr. Rowe and her son for their experience. We are proud to serve customers of all backgrounds and are committed to providing a positive, safe travel experience for everyone who flies with us.”

She also said that the company has fully refunded Rowe and her son for the flight but Rowe says that she did not receive any money in her account.

When Twitter heard about the incident, Netizens were furious. Have a look at the comments on the thread.
